D.A.R.E. Comes to Alexandria!

D.A.R.E Kick-Off
By Giselle O, Ms. Brown's Class, November 1997

When the D.A.R.E-kick off was held here at Alexandria, there were a lot of people. Before it started, all the fifth graders and WYSIWYG's got T-shirts. There were camera men, photographers, news stations, classes, police officers and a canine dog. First Mrs. Labrow was talking about who was going to be here and what they were going to do. The Chief of D.A.R.E. saluted two outstanding police officers. Then the chief talked about what the D.A.R.E. program was about.

Then after Mrs. Labrow talked about it a little more, they brought out "P2" the canine. They told "P2" to find the box that had the scent of marijuana in it and she found it! I was amazed how well she could sniff something like that. Next, the Turbo Power Rangers came out. The Red Ranger, the Pink Ranger, and the Blue Ranger came. They said that when they fight on T.V. that it was just make believe.

Afterward I went outside and took pictures of Daren the Lion. I took some pictures with him too. Then we took a picture of "P2". Four students from Mrs. Howell's Class and I went to the Computer Lab. Our D.A.R.E. Officer, Officer Salazar was there too. Then the Channel 34 cameraman asked him questions about the D.A.R.E. Web site, which, by the way, can be found on the Internet at http://www.dare-america.com . Officer Salazar told them that there were pictures of officers, Daren's Clubhouse, and pictures of him teaching. After that everyone left.
