Dear Ms. Jan Gabriel,

Hi, my name is Karen. I'm 10 years old. I am in the 5th grade. I go to Alexandria Ave School. I just wanted to tell you how I love your book Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I love it because it is so cool. The book has a lot of action.

I want to ask you some questions. Number one, what books do you like? I like action and adventure books and at night I read books. Why do you like to write books? I don't write books. How many books have you written? Where do you live? I live in a house that my dad bought. Have you written books that have been made into movies? Where do you get your ideas? I get my ideas from looking at the things that are around me. Are you married ? Why do you write books for children? Why did you want to be a author? When I grow up, I will be a author or a doctor. Where is your family from? My family is from El Salvador. I hope you can answer these questions and write me a letter back. What is your favorite color?

Sincerely,

Karen

DARE Essay
By Karen R., Ms. Miller's Class

Hi, my name is Karen this essay will be about what I've learned in D.A.R.E. I'm going to talk about how I feel about the D.A.R.E program. I'm happy because I learned a lot about the kind of drugs there are. I am excited because Officer Love explains the lessons in a very interesting way. We had fun. We laughed and had a good time learning.

We learned about different kind of drugs like Cocaine, Alcohol, Tabaco, Marijuana and Cigarettes. I feel safer because I know I won't do drugs in the future. But I'm sad because I think of the people that do drugs and how ther lives are going to be short.

I can stay drug free and avoid violence by ignoring drug dealers. Some ways to do it is to give them a cold shoulder, walk away, say no to drugs, don't look at the drug dealers, don't join gangs. It's important to be drug free and avoid violence so you can have a long life. You will feel good and happy. There will be no problems with your family and friends. You won't go to jail or prison and you will get good grades in school.

Instead, you will have more friends at school. You will be healthy and save your money instead of wasting it all on drugs.

DON'T DO DRUGS!!!!

Now I'm going to talk about my friends in school. They are Evelyn, Leilani, Marilu, Alicia, Ester, Jennifer, Ana, Tracy, Daisy, Tansy, Jessica, Vicky, Giselle and Michelle those are my friends. The singer I like is Christina Aguilera. My favorite movie is Titanic. My favorite game is Lottery, Chess, and Monopoly Jr. My favorite T.V. show is Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

I live in Los Angeles. My favorite toys are Pokemon and Kelly the doll. My school is Alexandria Ave. School. I have been in this school since 1st grade. My favorite book is Harry potter and Ms. Miller is reading this book. My favorite Author is J.K. Rowling. My Family has a tradition that when someone gets married the bride has to throw the bouquet I got the bouquet and had to dance with him. It was my most embarrasing things that I had ever done. They said that I am going to get married soon.

Don't get married soon! First, I have to study so that I can go to the University like my brother Jaime Ernesto. My mother is a really good mother because she tells me what is right and what is wrong. That is why I will always love her and my father, too.

Sincerely,

Karen
