On Dec 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright flew on the first flying machine. They grew up in Dayton Ohio. Their Mother and father encourage and taught them to build things. When they were young their father bought them a toy plane that caught their interest. They built their own models.

When they grew up, they started a printing press business and later opened a shop to repair and build bicycles. During this time, many people were trying to build a flying machine so they tried to build their own. They needed a special place to test their machine. They choose Kitty Hawk, North Carolina because it was private, quiet, windy and had sand for a soft landing.

On Dec. 17, 1903, they decided to test their machine. The first flight lasted 12 seconds. They flew three more times with their longest flight lasting 59 seconds. From that time on the world would never be the same.
