Alexandria's Garden History What's Growing in Our Garden?

The Eggplant and the Pepper Bed

Our favorite plants that we have in our school garden are the eggplants and the peppers. The eggplant is Mrs. Charkoudian's favorite vegetable; she likes it a lot. The eggplant is purple from the outside and inside it's all white. The eggplant has almost an oval shape. The eggplant has little leaves and the flowers turn into eggplants. The flowers are purple.

Our next plant that we are going to tell you about is the pepper plant. The pepper plant has little leaves and they are green from all sides. They have small white flowers that turn into peppers. We have red peppers too. They are very hot. Sometimes we take some peppers and eggplants home from our school garden and our families eat them.

Our Pumpkin and Corn Bed

We have a pumpkin and corn bed in our school garden. We have three big pumpkins in our pumpkin bed. There are a lot of bugs in this bed. The bugs lay eggs on the leaves of the pumpkin, and there are many little pumpkins too.

The pumpkin plant has big leaves and long stems, the leaves are dark green. The pumpkin has yellow flowers, these flowers turn into pumpkins. Pumpkin plants grow flat on the ground. Next to the pumpkins we have corn. The corn plants grow tall. The yellow part of the corn is called the kernel. The green leaves the cover the corn is called the husk and the hair like things that cover the kernel is called the silk.

We ate lots of corn from our school garden and they tasted delicious.

My Bean Plant

One day at home I planted six beans in a cup. I watered the plant and put it outside in the sun. The bean plant grew and it had two leaves. I took the plant to school. My teacher, Mrs. Charkoudian and I decided to plant my bean plant in our school garden. Our class watered the bean plant and the plant started to grow tall. Now my bean plant has many beans on it. The bean plant has small green leaves and it is a vine. The bean plant has small white flowers; these flowers become beans.

We are going to eat fresh beans from our school garden.

Our Rose Bed

Our class has a garden in our school. We take good care of it. We are going to write about the rose bed area. Roses have thorns on their stems and you can get stung on them. Rose petals have different colors, like red, white, yellow, pink. Before a rose is a flower it is a bud. Roses have nice scent, that is why we like roses. There are ten rose bushes in our garden. These bushes come in different sizes, we have yellow, pink, red, white, and mixed colored roses. They all have nice scents to them. We like smelling them and taking care of them. Sometimes we cut them and Mrs. Charkoudian puts them in a vase and we enjoy looking at them in our class. If you have time come and visit our garden.
